Thanks to Andrea Muller, London, who
translated this page and also another page: A brief history of Kloster
Denkendorf.
Kloster Denkendorf is a place with a rich cultural and religious heritage. Since the 12th century, the headquarters of the Canons of the Holy Sepulchre were based here. Johann Albrecht Bengel taught in the Protestant monastery school in the 18th century; in the monastery, the Bengel-Stube (Bengel chamber) was set up as a small museum in his memory. Friedrich Hölderlin was a pupil here. - The Further Education Institution uses of parts of the historical building: cloister, chapter house, crypt, and also the former Fruchtkasten (granary), as well as Margarete-Blarer-House, which was built around 1960. The monastery courtyard with a tulip tree in its centre is a particularly nice place for spending some time. - Single and double rooms, seminar rooms and halls in different buildings of the complex are available, as well as communal rooms for the evening time, a sports hall, and seating in the garden when the weather is nice. The kitchen provides full board catering and can also prepare vegetarian meals if you wish. For Jewish guests, a separate apartment with cooking facilities is available, and for bigger Jewish groups there is a kitchen for their exclusive use (strictly kosher, but only milky). Additionally, it is possible to set up a house synagogue (if there are enough men for a minyan, Ark available). - There are parking spaces in the courtyard and also at the bottom of the hill; shops can be found in the village, at 5 minutes walking distance. Since 1997, the monastery also accommodates the Pastoralkolleg - the Theological College - as well as the Further Education Institute Tours of the monastery complex (with guided tours for small and large groups), mainly of the monastery church, but also of the interior of the buildings of the institute and the cemetery church, are available by prior arrangement.
